If you are planning on going for floor tiling in Milton Keynes, then you need to make sure that the floor is completely level and balanced. Tile floors are very attractive but if they are not done properly, they can look just as terrible and that would eventually create more work for you. What is more is that if you have to redo the entire floor again, then it would generate additional costs. The first thing you need to make sure of is that the floor upon which the tiles are laid down is strong enough to handle the weight of the tiles.
Generally, the concrete floors are more suitable for this kind of a project but you should still check to see if it is balanced. It is advised that you use self-leveling concrete for the best results. Now, before you start, you need to make sure that you have the proper tools and materials to ensure maximum efficiency. Following items are required for the successful completion of your project.
- Floor leveling compound
- A four-foot nylon String
- Drill and mixing bucket
- Five-gallon bucket
Use the following guidelines if you are leveling your floors:
High and low spots
Use the right tools to check the high and low spots in the floors. Mark all the low spots with a pencil so that you know where to apply your effort.
Make the leveling compound
Next thing you need to do is make the leveling compound in a bucket (the instructions are provided with the leveler). Usually, it involves adding two inches of water in the bucket and then filling the remaining bucket with the compound. Then, properly mix the water and the compound in the bucket until a smooth texture forms. If you are not sure about the water to powder ratio, then refer to the instructions that came with the leveling compound or from the store owner who sold you the product.
Add enough leveling compound and water until you have a one-gallon mixture. It should have the consistency as that of a thin soup.
Pour the liquid
Now, pour the liquid over the low spots you marked earlier. Take care to start from the corner that is furthest from the door. When you pour the liquid, let it settle down before you add more and use a trowel to level the mixture where it is needed.
Once you start filling out all the low spots, do the in such a way that you can slowly move towards the door as you reach the end. Let the whole floor dry for at least 24 hours. It needs to properly set before you can start with floor tiling in Milton Keynes. The one thing you need to watch out for is that these compounds do not need to be completely dried off otherwise the tiling will not sit.
You need to only let them dry to a point where they are cured and can be tiled. Some floors can be worked on after 3 hours of using the leveler but it is recommended that you let it sit for 24 hours.
